(Exclusive) B Praak: Music has become a space where I can express both my wounds and my strength’
Singer-composer B Praak, known for his emotive music, emphasizes the importance of authenticity in connecting with audiences. He shares how personal grief, including the loss of his newborn son, has deepened his compassion and influenced his creative vulnerability. Praak also highlights his commitment to speaking out on issues, recently withdrawing from a show due to the host’s remarks.

Singer-composer B Praak has become one of Bollywood’s most emotive artistes with songs like Teri Mitti (Kesari), Ranjha (Shershaah), Sajna Tu Baimaan (The Ba***ds of Bollywood). Known for his craft, the National Award winner opens up about grief, healing, and why staying real, both on and off stage, remains his biggest strength. “People connect more deeply when you’re real”Praak has carved a niche for himself in music and has never hidden his wounds. “Whatever struggles, pain, or heartbreak I’ve faced in life, I’ve never tried to hide them because I feel people connect more deeply when you’re real.” At the same time, he hasn’t shied away from speaking up on issues beyond music. Recently, Praak publicly withdrew from a scheduled appearance on a podcaster’s (Ranveer Allahbadia) show after the host’s controversial remarks. Praak accused him of “pathetic thinking” and criticised the nature of the humour being aired. Later, while acknowledging that mistakes happen, he added: “It was wrong, but I think if someone (Ranveer) is genuinely apologetic, they should be forgiven.”“I’m not afraid of showing vulnerability”The recent years have been transformative for Praak. Reflecting on the devastation of losing his newborn son a couple of years ago, his tone shifts: “Losing our newborn son was the most unimaginable pain for Meera and me. It changed the way I look at life, grief, and healing. That experience has made me more compassionate, more sensitive, and more aware of the fragility of life. It does influence my creative choices because now, whenever I sing or create, I’m not afraid of showing vulnerability. Music has become a space where I can express both my wounds and my strength.” “The connection with my fans has always been based on authenticity”The rise of social media has brought fans closer, but for him the bedrock remains the same. “The connection with my fans has always been based on authenticity. Even before social media, I was known for the rawness of my voice and the honesty in my songs. The rise of social media has only amplified this. It allows me to share my journey, the highs and the lows directly with my fans. This direct engagement has definitely made things easier, but I still love connecting with people in person. That kind of connection is even more beautiful.”
