What is Pangeos Yacht?
The Pangeos Yacht is a Saudi luxury superyacht designed by Italian company Lazzarini and touted to be the world’s largest boat. This yacht is basically built on the basis of a turtle-shaped ship that is large enough to accommodate an entire city.
The boat is named after the Pangea supercontinent, which existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. Pangeo, like its namesake, will cover a vast portion of the ocean.
This behemoth is 1,800 feet long and has a wingspan of 2,000 feet at its widest point. The ship will be the world’s largest floating structure and will cost around US$8 billion (S$11 billion) to build.
What facilities does Pangeos Yacht have?
The “floating city” will include resorts, shopping centers, parks and even a port for small ships and planes. Entrances lead to villas, apartments, high-rise buildings and rooftop terraces. In the upper shell of the ship, zones for various flying vehicles will be built.
The lower level of the ship houses 30,000 cells or cluster compartments. Constructed mostly of steel, it is considered unsinkable.
Pangeo’s wings are designed to harvest energy from ocean waves, allowing it to sail indefinitely without emitting greenhouse gases. Solar panels will be installed on the roof to provide additional clean electricity to charge the Terra Yacht.
How many passengers can a Pangeos yacht carry?
Pangeos is a combination of luxury resort, cruise liner and city, so the yacht can accommodate up to 60,000 people.
Where is the destination of Pangeos Yacht?
The designers argued that the Pangeos yacht would not operate from a particular port or follow a predetermined route, but instead simply cruise, turning the journey itself into a “destination.”
What is unique about Pangeos Yachts?
With a virtually limitless supply of green energy, Terra Turtles can sail around the world indefinitely without emitting any emissions. Solar panels covering the yacht generate clean solar power for the hotel’s loads and propulsion system.
Pangeos is expected to cruise at a top speed of 5 knots thanks to nine electric motors, each rated at 16,800 horsepower. “Wings” also benefit from additional power from waves and wind.
Where are Pangeos yachts built?
Designers suggest Saudi Arabia as a destination.
Before construction can begin, approximately one square kilometer of ocean will need to be dredged and a circular dam built. Designers identified King Abdullah Port, 81 miles (130 kilometers) north of Jeddah, as the best location to build the ship.
The company aims to build the yacht in 2033 on an eight-year schedule. A crowdfunding campaign has also been launched, with everything from virtual admission tickets ($16) to VIP apartments ($169) available for purchase via NFT. .
