If you were around when the Model T was first introduced, you could have built an organization that would become a Disney, McDonald’s, or Holiday Inn, powered by cheap and plentiful automobiles. You could have become a major developer in the suburbs, a mortgage bank, or even a pop music record label (car radios changed the way music was consumed).
AI is here now, and the pace is amazing. So far, we have understood what freelancers and small businesses can do and choose to make an impact by selling processes and services to larger organizations in ways that dramatically change the way they do business. I’ve never seen anyone with that.
I asked for some suggestions. Here are a few:
- spreadsheet analysis: Analyze spreadsheets for trends and errors and provide statistical summaries.
- Debugging your code: Identifies errors in code snippets and suggests fixes.
- language translation: Translate text between multiple languages while preserving context.
- Preparation of legal documents: Draft basic legal documents, contracts, and NDAs with customizable inputs.
- nutritional analysis: Analyzes the nutritional content of meal plans and recipes and suggests improvements.
- Learn and create quizzes: Generate educational quizzes and flashcards on a variety of topics for self-testing.
- resume feedback: Provide feedback on your resume, including suggestions for improvements based on industry standards.
- Treatment session simulation: Simulates therapeutic conversations and provides support and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
- music theory analysis: Analyzes the music theory concepts of a song and suggests modifications and improvements.
- Create a workout plan: Create a personalized workout plan based on your fitness goals, available equipment, and time constraints.
- poetry and story writing: Write poems, stories, or even entire books based on detailed instructions or themes.
- Scientific research overview: Summarize complex scientific research papers into easy-to-understand language.
- Creating a trade name/slogan: Generate creative and relevant business names and slogans based on your industry and core values.
- meditation and mindfulness practice: Guided meditation and mindfulness exercises tailored to specific needs and time periods.
- fashion advice: Provides fashion advice, including outfit suggestions based on the occasion, weather, and personal style.
Some of these are parlor tricks, just as lava lamps wouldn’t exist if there was no electricity in the home. But they point to scalable changes in our infrastructure and a real need for people to write prompts rather than follow prompts.
My hunch is that, like many technological revolutions before, this breakthrough will create far more jobs than it will destroy. But change is real and it’s here now.
PS What I haven’t seen yet:
- Read all of my organization’s Google Docs and answer questions about what we know, what we do well, or what we don’t do consistently.
- Anyone who has read all my emails and knows what I’m missing or what I’m missing please advise
- Read all emails from everyone in the company and answer questions about everything from knowledge to efficiency to bullying…
- Compare any of the above with my colleagues…
