Kwa-Thema – Seven daycare centres participated in the Ward 79 Mini Olympics at Riba Park in White City recently.
Excitement filled the air as little ones from Cynosure, Luthando, Mosa, Lord Is My Shepherd, Iketsetse, Shalom and Sibakhulu daycare centres competed in their favourite physical activities.
“The purpose of the Mini Olympics was to bring together children, teachers and families in a spirit of unity, fun and healthy competition.
“While the event began as a simple idea to get our learners active and excited, it grew into something much more meaningful – a celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship and community spirit,” explained one of the organisers, Sharon Skosana of Shalom Day Care Centre.
Through the Mini Olympics, the group aimed to promote physical fitness, encourage participation and build confidence among learners.
“It was also a way to teach them the importance of cooperation, respect and perseverance, values that go beyond the sports field and into everyday life.
“Ultimately, the Mini Olympics reminded us that learning happens not only in the classroom but also through play, movement and shared experiences.
“It was about giving every child a chance to shine, to feel proud and to know that they belong to a supportive and vibrant community,” she added.
As the day came to an end, smiles and laughter filled the park, marking a memorable celebration of unity and youthful energy.
