Bill Ackman targets the research of all MIT professors after Business Insider reported on instances of plagiarism found in academic research by his wife, Neri Oxman, a tenured professor at MIT. We are strengthening our anti-plagiarism campaign.
MIT has not yet commented on the accusations against Oxman. But a representative for the university told Business Insider: “Our leaders are committed to ensuring that the important work of people at MIT can continue – work that is essential to our national security, prosperity, and quality of life.” We remain focused on achieving this goal.”
Mr. Ackman recently spearheaded a campaign to have former Harvard University president Claudine Gay resign over allegations that she had plagiarized her own academic papers. The call for her to resign comes after Ackman and others condemned Gay’s response to Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
Gay resigned on Tuesday after weeks of criticism.
“It is unfortunate that my actions to address issues in higher education led to an attack on my family,” Ackman said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. “This experience motivated me to save all news organizations from the hassle of plagiarism investigations. And start by reviewing the work of that board member. Plagiarism.”
A representative for Mr. Ackman did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
In December, Ackman began calling for Gay’s resignation and his resignation as president of the University of Pennsylvania. Liz McGill MIT’s Sally Kornbluth testified before Congress about dealing with anti-Semitism on campus.
Critics say leaders at elite schools are struggling to combat anti-Semitism on campus, which students say is on the rise following Israel’s declaration of war on Hamas. They scoffed at how inadequate it was.
McGill resigned on December 9, just four days after testifying that anti-Semitic speech “can become harassment when it becomes an act.” Penn and donors to her board of directors at Wharton, the university’s business school, had called for her resignation. It is not known that the plagiarism accusation played a role in her decision to resign.
Kornbluth remained in the position as of Friday, a day after Gay’s resignation, and announced his commitment to MIT, including improving the student disciplinary process and ensuring DEI programs effectively meet the needs of the campus. announced a plan for four “new steps” towards progress.
Kornbluth did not immediately respond to BI’s request for comment.
