NEW YORK – Get enthusiastic instruction from your workout instructor. This is a nightmare scenario for most of us, but for Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan, it’s a very harsh reality.
The actor, who won Best Director at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Wednesday night, recalled a frustrating moment during a virtual cycling class.
Director Nolan said on stage, “Directors have a complicated emotional relationship with critics and critics.” “I was on the Peloton doing a high interval workout, and I was dying. My instructor started talking about one of my movies and said, ‘Has anyone else seen this? Because those are the few hours I’ll never get in my life. Again.'”

Internet detective reveals derogatory clipThis comes from Peloton instructor Jen Sherman’s 2020 workout class. After listing the song “The Plan” from the Travis Scott movie “Tenet,” Sherman asked if anyone else had seen the engrossing sci-fi thriller.
“I need a manual,” Sherman lamented. “I’m not kidding, what was going on in that movie? Can you understand it? Seriously, you have to be a neuroscientist to understand it. And that was two and a half hours of my life. I want it back.”
Sherman posted a lighthearted apology video on Instagram on Thursday after Nolan’s speech went viral.
“Look, it was 2020. It was a dark time,” Sherman said. “I stand at the podium, teach the class, and, with my proverbial gibberish, make random comments about the movie I saw the night before.”
She went on to say that she still doesn’t understand “Tenet,” but has seen “Oppenheimer” twice. The cycling instructor ended the video with an open invitation to Nolan to join him for in-person training.
“Mr. Nolan, would you like to come with me to the Peloton studio?” said Mr. Sherman. “You can critique my class. We’ll have a good time. You’ll have a front row seat. And I promise there will be no insults.”
The time-altering Tenet, starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, was released in September 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The film was labeled “Nolan’s most confusing film” by the New York Post, but still grossed $69. Percentage of positive reviews on aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.
