vauxhall crossland
The new Crossland will be bigger and bolder than the current car, making it more of a small SUV than a lifted hatchback. Like its smaller sibling, the Corsa, it will be available with petrol and electric powertrains. The latter is expected to use Stellantis’ favored 154bhp front-mounted motor and 51kWh battery combination, giving it a range of around 250 miles.

vauxhall grandland
The Grandland has been reinvented as an electric SUV based on the new STLA medium platform, potentially allowing for more than 400 miles of range and a fast four-wheel-drive powertrain. The proposal would be similar to the current Grandland, but with a flashier roofline and possibly a new name.

Volkswagen ID 7
Think of this not as a rival to the Tesla Model 3, but as a much cheaper alternative to the Mercedes-Benz EQE. Not only does the ID 7 have a very practical and comfortable interior, but it also offers a range of between 386 and 435 miles, depending on the version you choose. The £55,570 starting price is well worth considering if you can use the internal touch controls.

Volvo EX30
This small SUV is stylish and great to drive, but the interior doesn’t live up to expectations. Quality is fine, but the dominance of the infotainment’s touchscreen system, where the most important controls are hidden away, gives it a bad taste.

Volvo EX90
Volvo’s electric flagship was delayed due to software issues, but is on track for launch later this year. Priced from £96,255, it offers a veritable feast of technology, including LIDAR sensors, interior lighting that mimics sunlight, and two-way charging.
