OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Kristin Jackman says there was no Christmas this year.
Early Christmas morning, two robbers broke into her store, Jackman Electronic Cigarettes near 108th and West Maple, and began helping themselves.
“I got a call from the alarm company a little after 3 o’clock and they said the alarm went off in the lobby,” Kristin said. “All the broken glass was found and the cases were messy and out of the way because they jumped over the glass and took a lot of things off the shelves and tables.”
Jackman said he has run his local family-run small business here for nine years and has never had a break-in.
That changed everything on Christmas morning, and so did Christine’s plans.
“We spent until 9 a.m. Christmas morning building the wooden door, covering the door and getting the place about half cleared,” Christine said. “We went home, got some sleep, got up around 4 p.m.… came right back and finished cleaning all the glass so we could open the next morning.”
The Jackmans opened a second store a few months ago, and this store is dear to Christine’s heart. Her emotions from Christmas morning are still fresh in her mind.
“My heart is broken,” Kristin said. “This place is my baby’s place and I feel a little bit violated that someone came in without your permission and took you away. It’s been tough. Your psyche has definitely taken a hit. Masu.”
Christine said that after opening the second store, finances got a little tight and she had just given her employees a Christmas bonus just before the run-in.
She is considering adding security measures to protect her store and its content. But there’s one thing she doesn’t think about. It means giving up her feelings about Christmas.
“Christmas is always Christmas and this is going to be just like, ‘Remember that year?'” Kristin said. “We didn’t have Christmas, and people would say, ‘What do you mean we didn’t have Christmas?'” Now, I want to talk about something. ”
