Etv Win is taking a step forward in the OTT world as an upcoming and popular platform. Their first original web series ’90 has been released and is currently streaming. Starring Shivaji and Vasuki in the lead roles, the series is directed by Aditya Haasan and has music by Suresh Bobiri. Let’s take a look back at historical dramas.
plot
’90s’ is set in the small town of Wanaparthy in the 1990s. The show revolves around Chandra Sekhar (Shivaji), a government teacher, and his middle-class family. Sekhar’s wife Rani (Vasuki) plays the role of a housewife and her family has three children: Raghu Teja (Mouli), Divya (Vasantika) and Aditya (Rohan). Chandra Sekhar is so strict that his children often become disappointed due to the adjustments required by his frugal lifestyle. Sekhar’s strict approach to his children’s education further heightens the tension. The series intricately navigates the emotional roller coaster that is unique to the life of a middle-class family.
Performance
There are impressive performances in the 90s. Sivaji is an experienced actor and gives a solid performance. He plays the strict middle-class teacher perfectly and is comedic and funny. Even in emotional scenes, Shivaji commands attention with his sincere performance. It’s good to see him play such an in-depth character role. Former actress Vasuki also made a comeback in the 90s. Her dubbing sounds a bit strange, but as her show progresses, Vasuki captivates you with her performance. Mouli, a Youtuber, is the main force and has given a great performance. He fits the character very well and brings depth to the series. Vasanthika and Rohan who play his brothers are also very good in the show.
professional matters
90’s is made on a budget, but looks great. The main point that attracts attention is the period setting. The middle class residential setting and chosen location is perfect. The visuals immediately transport you to the 90s and give you a nostalgic feeling. Suresh Bobbili’s music is decent and adds to the excitement of the match. The dialogue is pretty good, but the pacing was slow in many parts, so editing in some episodes could have been better. The script is decent so that there is not too much emotion in the show. The camera work could have been better in some of the series’ indoor scenes.

analysis
The story of the 90s is simple and there is nothing new throughout its writing. Director Aditya Haasan tells the story of a series of events that happen in anyone’s life and is set in the 90s, making her a favorite of many. The show’s greatest asset is its element of relatability. Most of us were born in her 90s and have experienced a range of emotions regarding strict fathers, school romances, and issues with parents. The 90s did a great job of presenting these issues without turning them into clichés.
There are many scenes that bring smiles to our faces. Aditya Haasan makes sure to create many scenes related to the middle class setting that resonates with young and family audiences. The best part about this series is that it can be watched by the whole family. The scene where Vasuki breaks down talking about how difficult it is to maintain a middle-class family is beautifully rendered.
Shivaji and Vasuki’s acting commands attention till the end. The comedy is perfect and blends in nicely with the flow of the story. Mooli’s love trajectory drags on for no reason, but other than that, things are neat. As mentioned earlier, there are so many predictable scenes and nothing new. Due to this factor, the series gets stuck in a bit of a quagmire in the third episode. There are no twists or changes in the story to create conflict.
But 90’s is a beautiful ode to the 90’s era, full of relatable moments that are presented in a simple and beautiful way. This series has something for everyone, packed with deep comedy and emotion. Ignore routine stories and predictable scenes.
Conclusion – Relive the nostalgia
