ATLANTA — A popular Atlanta bakery announced on social media this week that it will close its flagship location later this month.
Stacey Eames, founder and CEO of Highland Bakery, said Jan. 31 will be the last day of business at the store, located off Highland Avenue in the former Fourth Ward. Ta.

“As we embark on this transition, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone for your understanding, support, and continued patronage. We look forward to the future with optimism and excitement. We look forward to continuing to share Atlanta’s most beloved and comforting dishes with you,” Eames wrote.
Downtown’s Highland Bakery and Virginia Highland Press & Grind Coffee Shop, located at 25 Park Place near the Georgia State campus, will remain open. The bakery also plans to focus more on the catering side.

Highland Bakery opened 20 years ago at 655 Highland Avenue. Eames said the store will close as the building is sold and the lease expires.
The restaurant is the latest in a wave of Atlanta restaurants to close due to expiring leases or rising rents.
Hodgepodge Coffee closed its stores in Ormwood and Moreland on December 31st. The coffee shop said recent rent increases meant it could no longer afford the lease.
“All the price increases we have made over the past two years have gone directly towards increasing the cost of goods and salaries of our team in an attempt to overcome the cost of living crisis in this city,” the owner said.
