A toddler died Saturday after being hit by a truck at a popular family holiday destination in Australia.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the one-year-old boy was visiting the man-made Lake Brendon Reservoir in New South Wales with his family when they arrived in a ute, a utility sedan with a truck bed. It is said that he was hit by a car. .
The child was struck on the west side of the lake, on what is known as Fashion’s Mount Road.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 11 a.m. and attempted to treat the child until he was transported by helicopter to a children’s hospital. The infant was said to be in critical condition at the time.
The boy later died in hospital and police are currently investigating the incident, The Sun reported, citing a NSW Police spokesperson. The Sun newspaper called the incident a “horror” at a “busy holiday park”.
According to Visit New South Wales magazine, Lake Brendon is “one of the largest inland dams in New South Wales, three times the size of Sydney Harbour” when at full capacity. The area is also described as a “popular destination for kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders.”
